Joined by industry experts including TV’s Craig Phillips, The Space Project is looking to the local community to increase the skills and talent base for productions planning to film in Manchester.
Aimed at attracting more people into ‘behind the scenes’ jobs in the TV and film production industry, 150 local people have already signed up for this special free event but there are still a limited number of places left.
Attendees will get the chance to meet a host of industry professionals from the craft and technical sectors of the TV and film industry - some who work on Coronation Street and Strictly Come Dancing - including make-up artists, production designers, set builders and lighting and rigging experts. During the evening there will be the opportunity to attend a number of free sessions, talks and workshops.
Organised by social enterprise, SharpFutures, and part-funded by building contractor VINCI Construction, the evening is designed to help fill the skills gap in the industry’s supply chain in the north, and showcase the range of job opportunities open to local people.
The evening is aimed at tradespeople in Greater Manchester whether they are joiners, builders, electricians and painters and decorators who want to transfer their skills or new entrants with no previous experience, but would like to find out about careers in this sector.
SharpFutures production manager, Elli Metcalfe, who previously was responsible for sourcing trades people for TV shows like 60 Minute Makeover said: “Trades such as painters, joiners, plasterers and electricians are desperately needed in the TV and film industry. We need to create a community of craft skills and we're looking to the local community to help us so we can bring more TV and film production to Manchester. We hope local people come along to find out more about the opportunities on offer.”
Trish Brady, ITV Studio’s Head of HR said: "Developing ‘behind the scenes’ talent is hugely important to both ITV and the broadcast industry in general. We’re delighted to support SharpFutures’ open evening as events like this prove an invaluable platform in helping us find new crew members, whilst sharing our expertise and knowledge around the wide range of roles available in this area.”
The open evening will take place on 9 May 2017 from 4pm – 7pm. Places are limited so booking is essential.
