Menter a Busnes’ HR team won the prestigious Best Use of Welsh Language in HR (Team) category. The award recognised organisations for their role in the effective integration of the company’s Welsh language values in their people management and development practices.

The business support services’ HR team consists of Corinna Lloyd-Jones, HR director, and Elaine Davies and Gwenno Humphreys.

The first ever Wales HR awards celebrated the achievements of HR professionals up and down the country.

Hosted by the BBC’s Sian Lloyd, the awards celebrated the top teams and individuals from within the HR departments of organisations of all sizes across Wales.

Corinna said: “We are very proud to have won this award.

“It recognises our commitment to placing a fully bilingual internal HR service at the heart of the company’s people management and development practices.

“Menter a Busnes is a completely bilingual company and we pride ourselves on setting the benchmark for business support through the medium of Welsh.”

Menter a Busnes is an independent company helping individuals and companies throughout Wales to start and grow their businesses.

It also has offices in Aberystwyth, St Asaph, and Bangor.

It provides entrepreneurship awareness, business start-up and business growth support to individuals, groups and SME’s, aiming to make a positive contribution to the Welsh economy.

The Wales HR Awards have been created and delivered by the Wales HR Network, run by Acorn, a specialist recruitment and training agency, and commercial law firm Darwin Gray. The Wales HR Network delivers seminars and events for HR professionals across the country.

Lord Price, the Minister of State at the Department for International Trade and formerly Managing Director for Waitrose and Deputy Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership was guest speaker at the event.

Winners and guests were entertained by Only Boys Aloud and Welsh National Opera’s Youth Opera, which provides young singers aged 10 to 25 with a training programme and progression route to develop their singing and performance skills and also gain a unique insight into the functions of a major arts organisation.

Fflur Jones, Head of Darwin Gray’s Employment Law and HR Department, said: “Despite being at the core of every successful company, HR is very often an under-acknowledged profession. That’s why I think this event has generated such a positive response; it seems to have really struck a chord.

“We’ve been so impressed by the quality and diversity of the nominations and really value the effort and time put in by all those who entered these inaugural awards. We want this to be an annual celebration of HR excellence and couldn’t be happier with the way it’s been received by HR professionals all over Wales.”

Sarah Jones, Acorn’s Head of Marketing, added: “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response to and support for the first Wales HR Awards. The number of entries received exceeded all our expectations, and the calibre of nominees and winners is outstanding.

“Everyone at Acorn and Darwin Gray are so proud to have created these awards. They are now a legacy in Wales, which will recognise and celebrate excellence in HR for years to come.”
